Join the next generation of young actors and film makers in Kilkenny for a week of intensive short film production. Since 2001 the National Youth Film School has become the premier film school for young Irish people aged 13 to 20.
The National Youth Film School is a residential school for 20 young film makers run over fiveweeks during the summer holidays. The school is based in Kilkenny City. Recruitment is from January to May with a final selection weekend held at June in Kilkenny. To date over 100 young people from all over Ireland (about a third of them from Northern Ireland) have taken part in the school. A number of students have gone on to third level courses in film making using their NYFS feature film as their portfolio submission. Since it's inception, the National Youth Film School has grown into the foremost developmental training and production programme for young Irish people (aged 13 to 20 years) interested in film making and media production. Five feature films have been made as part of this programme – The Children (2002), Stealaway (2003) (both U.S. Film Festival winners), Lily’s Bad Day (2004) and Eliza Mayflower (2005), Suckers (2008).
