Skegs & Skangers was filmed over the summer of 2001, scripted and produced by Young Irish Film Maker's own John Morton. Again, as with previous YIFM productions, 'Skegs was shot on location at the YIFM studios and in various locations around the city and county of Kilkenny. Skegs and Skangers is set in Kilkenny, Ireland in the last weekend of the summer holidays of 2001. It follows five friends and their attempts to have the best weekend ever before they go back to school. Their ulterior motive for having a wild weekend is that they all have problems with the women in their lives and just want to forget about all their hassles and really cut loose. The film also features a supporting cast of strange and slightly alcoholic characters. The film is in the vein of recent American teen movies such as ‘American Pie', '10 things I hate about you', ‘Dazed and Confused', ‘Go' and ‘Road Trip' with a Irish spin on it. The film shows Irish teen life and the complexities, embarrassment and alcohol consumption that go with it. It depicts how stupid guys are when it comes to women and how women are usually the smarter ones when guys are screwing up and tripping over themselves. Sean (Murt Brennan) is the guy everyone looks up to, smart, cocky and charming, with a real attitude. Sean is also having girl troubles. He's just dumped, Claire (Aine Connellan), the girl he loves because of cold feet and now really regrets it. Because of his whole ‘doesn't give a damn' attitude he doesn't know how to rectify the situation and doesn't want to lose face in front of his friends. Can he ask her back without looking like a cop out? Or will he remain miserable over the one who got away? Stevey (Biff Walsh) is the quiet, moody one. Stevey's a nice guy, in fact he's so much of a nice guy people tread all over him. With his friends he's grand but with other people he just lets them push him over. His girlfriend Sinead (Hazel Fahy) is possessive and abusive to him and he's getting too much heat with his boss in work. Stevey wants to be rid of all the things that are pissing him off in his life but is he too much of a chicken to take action? Kevin (Trev Anderson) is mature and responsible. But he's also the angsty one. Kevin is completely wound up by Laura (Niamh Mulvey), a real lads girl. She's one of his best friends and they've been friends for years but he thinks he's in love with her and it's eating away at him. He wants to tell her but he doesn't want to ruin their friendship either. He has a fear of being a ‘sap' but he doesn't want to let any chances of a good relationship go either. So like the rest of the guys he thinks a hard living weekend will sort his head out. Skeet (Matthew Gargan) is the wild, ditzy one. Skeet could be best described as a bimbo. With his blue hair and wild habits Skeet is the most distinctive of all the guys. But like the others he has women troubles, his girlfriend Susan (Grainne Murphy) is wilder than him and Skeet doesn't like it because he pales in comparison to her. Oh yeah, and she's also a manic depressive hyperactive psychopath. Skeet is too scared to break it off with her. When he meets up with Flora (Amy Dunne), a chilled and smart girl he finds someone who he clicks with but is he prepared to let Susan go? And will she without a fight? Ben (John Morton) is sarcastic, cynical and lazy. Ben is completely disillusioned with women and the game but could be tempted if the right girl comes along, but that also doesn't look like it'll happen. Ben's match seems to be Emma (Orla O'Shea) and these two loathe each other. They constantly bitch and bicker with each other and are total opposites. Ben however secretly fancies Emma and can't really deal with it because he can't stand her. Ben wants to have the weekend to end all weekends but will his and Emma's attempts to get at each other turn really nasty?
