The Government Inspector

By Nikolai Gogol
2nd - 5th April 2003
Directed by Trev Anderson

The Story :

The Russian classic comedy is transposed to an unnamed town at some time in our country's past. A chancer by the name of Smyth is mistaken for an expected government inspector and along with his man servant Bosco are given the all perks available by the fooled townspeople. They have to try and get what they can before the real government inspector arrives.

The Facts :

This was Dreamstuff's first adaptation of an already published play.

Neither the town nor the year the play takes place in is ever specified.

Despite being the title character, the real Government Inspector is never seen in this play

Memorable Scene :

The Mayor's rant when the town discovers that they've been duped

Choice Line :

Charity Commissioner: 'It came like a fog, a fog from hell!'
