By Dion Boucicault
April 2002
Directed by Mike Kelly
The Story :
Boucicault’s classic melodrama about an escaped Fenian, Robert Ffolliott who returns to his Sligo home and with his friend, the wily Shaughraun Conn and English soldier Captain Molineux pit their wits against the corrupt Corry Kinchella and police spy Harvey Duff.
The Facts :
We used cold tea to substitute for all the whiskey needed.
The tune whistled by Conn throughout the play was the Glenroe theme music.
his play featured our best ad libbed line when someone left a mobile on the speakers causing sound interference. David Thompson as Conn paused until the noise finished before stating emphatically ‘There’s a storm brewing’ and strolling off stage to much audience laughter
Memorable Scene :
Conn’s rowdy appearance at his own wake
Choice Line :
Captain Molineux: ‘Beg pardon, your Irish names are so unpronounceable. You see, I’m an English man.
