We are the youngest film studio in the world. The young Irish Film Makers is an innovative Irish Film Training and Production Studio where young people, aged 10 – 18 years, have the opportunity to create and communicate their ideas and stories by making feature films for international television and the internet. By providing access to new digital technologies, we provide a platform for young people to become active and imaginative film and multimedia producers communicating through broadcast technology to the rest of the world.
Young Irish Film Makers is a truly visionary project, a youth led digital training and production organisation making feature films for international television. Kilkenny is the only place in the world where young people between the age of 12 and 18 participate in broadcast level film and media training and production.
MISSION STATEMENT
Young Irish Film Makers is committed to helping young people get a start in film making by bridging the gap between student and professional film makers.
It offers young people aged 13 to 20 years the opportunity to make their own feature films to professional standards of excellence.
It is the only organisation of its kind in Ireland, perhaps the world where feature films are made entirely by young people.
AIMS:
To establish a centre of excellence in Kilkenny for Young Irish Film Makers.
To train young people in film making through the actual production of feature films.
To place young people at the centre of the film making process becoming active and critical users rather than passive consumers of the media.
To encourage a strong focus on teamwork, helping young people to take creative risks, using their own judgements to take responsibility for their own learning and thinking as quickly as possible.
To impart skills to our young people that can be applied in every aspect of their present life and future careers.
To make feature films socially and culturally relevant to young people living in contemporary Ireland.
To make a unique contribution to the Arts in Ireland.
