New Year

Posted by Darragh On January - 16 - 2009

Following our mad, crazy production of Monty Python’s Life of Brian before Christmas Dreamstuff Youth Theatre is getting ready for its busiest production year ever in 2009.

Drama classes have just started for Juniors (under 12) every Tuesday from 4 to 6pm and every Wednesday for Seniors (13-18) from 4:30 to 6:30. Some places still available if you want to join – just turn up on the day!

Theatre productions developed in these classes will be staged in our premises during our Open Day on Saturday 4th April. The senior drama production called Tales from the City will be performed publicly at sites all around Kilkenny on Easter Saturday 11th April.

The Watergate Theatre beckons again after Easter when Dreamstuff will stage a true classic of the Irish theatre, The Playboy of the Western World by John Millington Synge from Tuesday 28th April to Saturday 2nd May. 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of J.M. Synge and what better way to commemorate of Irelands greatest playwright than by staging his greatest play.

Auditions for The Playboy of the Western World will be held on Tuesday 27th and Thursday 28th January at 7pm each night in the YIFM studios on the Waterford road.

The last weekend in June sees Dreamstuff Youth Theatre return to Rothe House to stage its Shakespeare in the House festival of plays by and about William Shakespeare. This is a follow up to last years open air productions by Dreamstuff of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth funded by Kilkenny Arts Office and staged in association with Rothe House. For this years festival Dreamstuff Youth Theatre will be supported by performances by the exciting Devious Theatre Company and others. There will be Shakespeare workshops and other exciting events for children, Full details of the Shakespeare in the House programme will be available soon.

In July and August all our young actors turn their acting skills to appearing in Young Irish Film Makers Summer film. And then after a short rest it’s back to the theatre programme in September and the mad rush to stage the Christmas play in the Watergate – but more of those details later in the year!

For the more technical minded young people Young Irish Film Makers is running classes after school every day (Monday to Friday- 4:30 to 6:30) in camera, lighting, sound, editing, photography, portfolio preparation, web and graphic design. Places still available – contact us or just turn on one of the days.
